1. Welcome

Welcome to Henfield Pottery.

Our aim is to provide a welcoming, creative and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy the experience of working with clay, whether you're attending your very first pottery class or returning to develop your skills.

By making a booking with Henfield Pottery, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Booking Terms & Conditions.

Separate Website Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy also apply when using our website.

4. Booking Your Place

Bookings may be made through our website, online booking system, by email or by any other booking method authorised by Henfield Pottery.

A booking is only confirmed once:

  • your booking has been accepted by Henfield Pottery; and

  • any required payment or deposit has been successfully received.

Confirmation will normally be sent by email.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the information you provide is accurate and that your contact details remain up to date.

5. Prices

All prices are displayed in Pounds Sterling (£).

Prices include VAT where applicable. If Henfield Pottery is not VAT registered, prices are not subject to VAT.

Prices may change from time to time, but any changes will not affect bookings that have already been confirmed.

6. Payment

Depending on the type of booking, payment may be required:

Where a deposit is accepted, the remaining balance must be paid by the date specified in your booking confirmation.

Failure to pay the balance may result in your booking being cancelled and your place offered to another customer.

Unless otherwise stated, deposits are non-refundable except where Henfield Pottery cancels the booking or where you are entitled to a refund under applicable consumer law.

8. Consumer Rights for Online Bookings

If you book online, by telephone or by another distance-selling method, you may have rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

Where your booking is made more than 14 days before the class or workshop, you may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of making your booking.

However, if you request that your class, workshop or other service begins during that 14-day cancellation period, you expressly agree that Henfield Pottery may begin providing the service before the cancellation period expires.

If the service has been fully provided during that period, your statutory right to cancel may end.

Where only part of the service has been provided before cancellation, we may be entitled to retain an amount reflecting the proportion of the service already delivered, as permitted by law.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

Cancellations, Transfers and Flexible Booking Requests

10. Customer Cancellations

We understand that plans sometimes change. Our cancellation policy is intended to be fair to both our customers and Henfield Pottery, as many of our classes have limited spaces and require advance preparation.

One-off Classes and Workshops

If you cancel:

More than 14 days before your booking

You may choose one of the following:

  • a full refund;

  • a transfer to another available class or workshop; or

  • studio credit to use towards a future booking.

Between 7 and 14 days before your booking

You may choose:

  • a transfer to another available class or workshop; or

  • studio credit.

If we are able to fill your place, we may, at our discretion, offer a full or partial refund.

Less than 7 days before your booking

As we are unlikely to be able to refill your place at short notice, refunds and transfers are not normally available.

However, you are welcome to transfer your booking to another person if:

  • they meet any minimum age requirements;

  • they are able to safely participate; and

  • you notify Henfield Pottery before the class begins.

Multi-week Courses

Our courses require commitment from both participants and Henfield Pottery, and places are limited.

If you cancel:

More than 14 days before the course begins

You may choose:

  • a full refund;

  • a transfer to another course (subject to availability); or

  • studio credit.

Within 14 days of the course start date

Refunds are not normally available.

If we are able to fill your place before the course begins, we may, at our discretion, offer a refund or studio credit.

Once a course has started, refunds cannot normally be given for missed sessions.

11. Flexible Booking Requests

Henfield Pottery recognises that some customers live with long-term health conditions, disabilities or other circumstances that can make attendance less predictable.

Creating an inclusive studio is one of our core values, and we do not want unnecessary barriers to prevent people from enjoying pottery.

If you believe you may benefit from additional flexibility, we encourage you to contact us before making your booking or as soon as reasonably possible afterwards.

Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we will work with you to explore suitable options. Depending on the circumstances, these may include:

  • transferring your booking to another available date;

  • issuing studio credit;

  • agreeing an alternative arrangement;

  • making other reasonable adjustments to help you participate.

Each request will be considered individually.

In doing so we will take into account:

  • your individual circumstances;

  • the notice provided;

  • the type of booking;

  • preparation already undertaken;

  • whether the place can reasonably be filled; and

  • the needs of other customers.

We may ask for limited information to help us understand how we can best support your request. Any personal information shared will be handled confidentially and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Offering flexibility in one situation does not create an automatic entitlement in future cases. We will always aim to balance compassion with fairness to all participants and the practical operation of the studio.

12. Exceptional Circumstances

We understand that unexpected events can arise.

If you are unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances, such as:

  • sudden illness;

  • hospital admission;

  • bereavement;

  • serious accident;

  • severe travel disruption; or

  • another significant unforeseen event,

please contact us as soon as possible.

Whilst our standard cancellation policy will normally apply, we will always consider exceptional circumstances sympathetically and may, at our discretion, offer a refund, transfer or studio credit where appropriate.

13. If Henfield Pottery Needs to Cancel or Reschedule

Occasionally we may need to cancel or rearrange a class, workshop or event due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control or where it is necessary for the safe operation of the studio.

Examples include:

  • tutor illness;

  • severe weather;

  • insufficient bookings;

  • equipment failure;

  • utility interruptions;

  • building issues;

  • other unforeseen circumstances.

If this happens, you will be offered the choice of:

  • a full refund;

  • a transfer to another available date; or

  • studio credit.

We will make every reasonable effort to give as much notice as possible.

Henfield Pottery is not responsible for any additional costs you may incur as a result of a cancelled or rescheduled booking, such as travel, accommodation or loss of earnings, except where required by law.

14. Late Arrivals

Please arrive a few minutes before your session begins.

If you arrive late, we will do our best to help you join the session safely.

However:

  • classes will start on time;

  • sessions cannot normally be extended;

  • significant lateness may mean that it is not safe or practical for you to participate fully.

In these circumstances, refunds or transfers will not normally be available.

15. Failure to Attend

If you do not attend your booked class or workshop without notifying us in advance, your booking will be treated as a non-attendance.

No refund, transfer or studio credit will normally be available, unless otherwise agreed under the Flexible Booking Requests or Exceptional Circumstances sections of these Terms.

Attending Henfield Pottery

16. Attending Your Session

We want every visit to Henfield Pottery to be enjoyable, creative and safe.

To help classes run smoothly, we ask all participants to arrive a few minutes before the scheduled start time.

Please allow sufficient time to park, find the studio and settle in before your session begins.

17. Minimum Age Requirements

Our standard minimum age for pottery classes and workshops is 10 years old, unless otherwise stated.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied throughout the session by a responsible adult who remains on the premises unless Henfield Pottery has confirmed alternative arrangements in writing.

Certain workshops or events may have different age requirements, which will be stated at the time of booking.

18. Accessibility and Additional Support

Henfield Pottery is committed to creating an inclusive environment where as many people as possible can enjoy working with clay.

If you have:

  • a disability;

  • a long-term health condition;

  • reduced mobility;

  • sensory requirements;

  • neurodivergent needs; or

  • any other access requirements,

please let us know before your visit wherever possible.

We will always consider reasonable adjustments and work with you to make your visit as comfortable and accessible as we reasonably can.

Although we cannot guarantee that every adjustment will be possible, we are committed to discussing individual requirements openly and respectfully.

19. Health Information

Pottery is a practical, hands-on activity.

Before participating, please tell us about any medical conditions, injuries or other circumstances that may affect your ability to safely take part.

This may include:

  • reduced mobility;

  • recent surgery;

  • allergies;

  • pregnancy;

  • dizziness;

  • conditions affecting balance or strength;

  • any other information you feel would help us support you safely.

Providing this information is entirely optional. However, if we are unaware of relevant circumstances, our ability to make appropriate adjustments may be limited.

Any health information shared with us will be treated confidentially and handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

20. Appropriate Clothing

Clay can be messy.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.

Although aprons are available, Henfield Pottery cannot accept responsibility for damage to clothing, footwear or jewellery resulting from normal participation in pottery activities.

21. Footwear, Hair and Jewellery

For your safety:

  • closed-toe shoes should be worn at all times;

  • long hair should be tied back where appropriate;

  • loose scarves, ties or flowing clothing should be secured when using pottery wheels or equipment;

  • large rings, bracelets and other jewellery should be removed where practical;

  • long fingernails may make some pottery techniques more difficult.

Members of staff may ask participants to adjust clothing or jewellery if this is necessary for safe participation.

22. Health and Safety

Participants must follow all reasonable instructions given by Henfield Pottery staff.

This includes guidance relating to:

  • pottery wheels;

  • kilns;

  • tools and equipment;

  • glazes and materials;

  • lifting and moving equipment;

  • general studio safety.

Participants must not use equipment without appropriate instruction or permission.

Certain areas of the studio, including kiln areas and staff workspaces, may only be accessed with permission.

23. Behaviour and Respect

Henfield Pottery is committed to maintaining a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for everyone.

We ask all participants to:

  • treat staff and other customers with courtesy and respect;

  • behave in a way that contributes positively to the studio environment;

  • take reasonable care of studio equipment;

  • respect the creative work of others.

We will not tolerate:

  • abusive or threatening behaviour;

  • harassment;

  • discrimination;

  • bullying;

  • intimidation;

  • deliberate damage to equipment or artwork;

  • behaviour that places others at risk.

Where behaviour is considered unacceptable, Henfield Pottery reserves the right to ask a participant to leave the session.

Depending on the circumstances, no refund or credit will be offered.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.

24. Alcohol and Drugs

Participants must not attend classes while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.

If we reasonably believe that a participant is impaired in a way that could affect their own safety or the safety of others, we may refuse participation.

Where this occurs, refunds or transfers will not normally be available.

25. Photography and Filming

Henfield Pottery occasionally photographs or films classes, workshops and events to help share our work and promote future activities.

Photographs may be used on:

  • our website;

  • social media;

  • printed publicity;

  • newsletters; and

  • other marketing materials.

We will always respect the wishes of anyone who does not wish to appear in photographs.

Please let a member of staff know before or during your visit if you would prefer not to be photographed or filmed.

Parents or legal guardians must provide consent before photographs of children under the age of 18 are used for promotional purposes.

Participants are welcome to take photographs of their own work.

Please be mindful of the privacy of others and avoid photographing or filming other participants without their permission.

26. Personal Belongings

Personal belongings remain the responsibility of their owner at all times.

Henfield Pottery cannot accept responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property unless caused by our negligence.

We recommend avoiding bringing unnecessary valuables into the studio where possible.

Clay, Firing, Glazing and Collection

27. Clay and Materials

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, all classes and workshops use clay and materials supplied by Henfield Pottery.

The type of clay used will depend on the class, firing temperature and intended finish.

Clay, glazes and other materials are selected to work together safely within our firing schedules and studio processes.

28. Outside Clay

To protect our kilns and the work of other customers, clay purchased elsewhere must not be brought into the studio for firing unless agreed in advance.

Different clay bodies mature at different temperatures and may damage kiln shelves, kiln furniture or other customers' work if fired incorrectly.

If outside clay is accepted for firing, Henfield Pottery reserves the right to refuse any item that we reasonably believe may present a risk to our equipment or other work.

29. Firing and Glazing

Pottery is made by hand and every piece is unique.

The drying, glazing and firing processes are influenced by many factors, including the clay body, glaze chemistry, firing temperatures, kiln atmosphere and the way an item has been constructed.

For this reason, no guarantee can be given that any item will remain free from:

  • cracking;

  • warping;

  • glaze imperfections;

  • colour variation;

  • crazing;

  • pinholing;

  • blistering;

  • kiln marks;

  • minor distortion; or

  • other changes that naturally occur during the ceramic process.

These characteristics are often considered part of the unique nature of handmade ceramics.

30. Risk of Breakage

Although every reasonable care is taken when handling, drying, glazing and firing customer work, pottery is fragile and the ceramic process carries an unavoidable risk.

Occasionally, pieces may crack, break or become damaged during:

  • drying;

  • bisque firing;

  • glazing;

  • glaze firing;

  • cooling;

  • handling.

Henfield Pottery cannot accept liability for the loss of or damage to pottery resulting from the normal risks associated with ceramic production where reasonable care has been taken.

This does not affect your legal rights where loss or damage results from our negligence.

31. Firing Service

Henfield Pottery may offer a firing service for work made both in the studio and, where agreed in advance, by external makers.

We reserve the right to refuse work that:

  • has not been made from an approved clay body;

  • contains unknown materials;

  • is unsuitable for firing;

  • presents a risk to the kiln or other work;

  • exceeds the size or weight limitations of our kilns; or

  • is inadequately dried.

Customers using the firing service are responsible for providing accurate information about the clay body and any previous firings where applicable.

Henfield Pottery reserves the right to determine appropriate firing schedules.

32. Finished Work

Work created during classes and workshops will normally be fired and made available for collection once complete.

Firing times vary depending on:

  • drying conditions;

  • kiln availability;

  • studio workload;

  • firing schedules.

Completion times are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed.

We will normally notify customers when work is ready to collect.

33. Collection of Work

Finished work should be collected within three months of notification that it is ready.

If you are unable to collect your work within this period, please contact us as soon as possible.

Where reasonable, we will always try to agree an alternative arrangement.

34. Uncollected Work

Storage space within the studio is limited.

Items that remain uncollected more than three months after notification may be:

  • recycled;

  • responsibly disposed of; or

  • reused for educational or studio purposes,

unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in advance.

Henfield Pottery cannot guarantee that uncollected work will be retained beyond this period.

35. Ownership of Work

Work created during classes remains the property of the customer once all outstanding payments relating to the booking have been made.

Henfield Pottery retains ownership of any unfinished work where payment remains outstanding until the account has been settled.

36. Commissioned Work

Where Henfield Pottery undertakes commissioned ceramic work, separate written terms may apply covering design approval, production times, payment schedules and collection or delivery.

Where separate terms have been agreed, those terms will take precedence over this section.

37. Delivery of Finished Work

Collection from the studio is the preferred method of receiving finished work.

Where delivery has been agreed, additional packaging and postage charges may apply.

Risk in the goods passes to the customer upon delivery.

Henfield Pottery is not responsible for delays caused by postal or courier services, although we will always assist in resolving any issues where reasonably possible.

Liability, Complaints and Legal Information

38. Liability

Henfield Pottery takes reasonable care to provide a safe, enjoyable and professionally run environment for all customers.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by our negligence;

  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or

  • any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Subject to the above, Henfield Pottery shall not be liable for:

  • loss of profits;

  • loss of business opportunities;

  • indirect or consequential losses;

  • delays caused by events outside our reasonable control; or

  • damage resulting from a participant failing to follow reasonable safety instructions.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

By participating, you agree to:

  • follow all reasonable instructions provided by Henfield Pottery;

  • use equipment safely;

  • take reasonable care of yourself and others;

  • inform us of anything that may affect your safe participation.

Participants remain responsible for their own actions while attending the studio.

40. Force Majeure

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • severe weather;

  • flooding;

  • fire;

  • pandemic or epidemic;

  • government restrictions;

  • industrial action;

  • interruption of electricity, water or internet services;

  • supplier failures;

  • serious illness;

  • accidents;

  • acts of terrorism;

  • civil disturbance; or

  • any other unforeseen event beyond our reasonable control.

Where possible, we will notify customers promptly and offer an alternative date, studio credit or refund where appropriate.

41. Intellectual Property

All course materials, written resources, photographs, teaching notes, handouts, digital downloads and other content produced by Henfield Pottery remain our intellectual property unless otherwise stated.

They may not be copied, reproduced, distributed or used commercially without our prior written permission.

Customers are, of course, free to enjoy, display and use the pottery they create during classes, subject to these Booking Terms.

42. Complaints

We hope every customer enjoys their experience at Henfield Pottery.

If something has not met your expectations, we encourage you to let us know as soon as possible so that we have the opportunity to resolve the matter.

Complaints should ideally be raised:

  • during your visit where appropriate; or

  • by email as soon as reasonably possible after the event.

We are committed to handling complaints fairly, respectfully and promptly.

Our aim is always to find a reasonable solution wherever possible.

43. Changes to These Booking Terms

Henfield Pottery may update these Booking Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our business, services or legal obligations.

The latest version will always be available on our website.

Changes will not affect bookings already confirmed unless required by law or where both parties agree otherwise.

44. Severability

If any provision of these Booking Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

45. Governing Law

These Booking Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
